The free market check

Tell us your trade and your town

We send back where you sit today, who holds page one, and whether your town is still open. It costs nothing, it takes about a day, and you are under no obligation at the end of it.

  • Onebusiness per town, per trade. There is one page one and it cannot be sold twice.
  • Nothingis due until your site has held page one for fourteen days in a row.
  • Ninetydays. Miss it and you owe nothing at all, and we part.

Send it to me in writing

Six fields. The only ones we cannot work without are your name, an email and your web address.

Where the check gets sent. You are not added to a list.
Optional, and faster than email if your town is open.
We read this the way a search engine reads it.

Or just pick up the phone

If you would rather say it out loud than type it, that works too and it is quicker.

What happens next

  1. We pull the real search volume for your phrase, with the location set to your town.
  2. We record all forty positions and flag which are directories.
  3. We read your site the way a crawler does and list what is missing.
  4. We tell you plainly whether your town is open.

If it is already taken you get told in the first line, and we will not pivot to selling you something else.

The express lane

Already know you want your town? Book the call.

Twenty minutes on video, face to face. We look at your search results together on the same screen and you get the number before the call ends.

What we cover

  • Your phrase, its real volume, and what your competitors pay per click for it.
  • Where you sit today and who is above you.
  • What one new customer is worth to you. This is the question that sets the price, and it is why there is no figure printed anywhere on this site.
  • Whether your town is open, and what signing would actually commit you to.

No deck. No recording. If it is not a fit we will say so and give you the market check anyway.

The invite creates the video link automatically, so there is nothing to install and nothing to arrange afterwards.

Pick a time

Twenty minutes, on video. Choose any slot that suits you.

Force one, and you can check it yourself

Look at your own browser tab.

Open your homepage and read the text in the tab at the top of the window. That is your title tag. It is the single strongest thing you control about how a search engine understands the page.

In the one market we have published research on, we read thirty seven law firms and thirty one of them had never put the word describing what they do in that tab. Fourteen had no page about the service at all, while advertising it.

That takes fifteen seconds to check on yourself and it is true or it is not. We would rather you verify one small thing than believe a large one.

The full report, and how it was measured.

Force two

Nothing is due until it has worked.

  • To startNothing
  • Every week while we workNothing
  • The morning you first appear on page oneNothing
  • After fourteen days in a row on page oneOne payment, for the year
  • If ninety days pass and you are not thereNothing, and we part

Fourteen in a row, not fourteen added up. We check every morning and the dated record arrives with the invoice.

Forces three, four and five

You are not the only person reading this.

Page one is the scoreboard

You do not have to take our word for any of this. Open a new window, search your trade and your town the way a customer would, and read the names that come back.

Those are the businesses that could be sitting where you want to sit. That page is public, it changes on its own, and it is the only count in this that both of us can see. We do not keep a private one.

One town, one business

There is one page one and it holds a fixed number of names. Two businesses in the same trade in the same town would be paying us to fight each other for the same spot, and one of them would have to lose.

So we take one. Everyone else in that town gets told no for as long as the agreement runs, and that costs us money every time we honour it.

The first one to write is the one we work with

Not the biggest and not the oldest. We reply in the order the messages arrive. When a town is spoken for we stop taking it, and we will tell you that in the first line rather than letting you find out slowly.

How we go about the work itself is not something we publish, for the same reason a firm does not publish its case strategy. What we publish is what it costs you if it does not work, which is nothing.

Before you write

Four things people ask first.

What exactly do I get back, and when?

Four things, usually inside one working day. The real monthly search volume for your phrase pulled with the location set to your town rather than the whole country. Every position in the top forty and which of them are directories rather than competitors. Your own site read the way a search engine reads it. And whether your town is open in your trade.

Is this a sales call in disguise?

The market check is written and it is sent whether or not you ever reply to it. If your town is already taken we say so in the first line and we do not try to sell you something else instead.

Why will you not tell me the price on this page?

Because the right number depends on what one new customer is worth to you, and we would rather ask than guess. A firm that bills four thousand dollars for one matter and a shop that clears eighty on a sale are not the same conversation. Ask on the call and you get a plain figure in about a minute.

What happens if I book a call and then change my mind?

Nothing. There is no deposit to lose and no agreement in place. Cancel it in the calendar and that is the end of it.

One business per town

The first one to write is the one we work with.

Not the biggest, not the oldest. The one who gets in touch first. We reply in the order the messages arrive, and once a town is spoken for we stop taking it.
